Why do fundies, evangelicals, and other conservative Christians deny evolution?

They believe that if their interpretation of the Bible is contradicted in any way, that it would also contradict God. They believe and worship the Bible AS God, and therefore it cannot ever be wrong lest the God itself be disproven. in this way, they must fight ANY perceived contradiction with what they believe the Bible says, regardless of the evidence, because they believe that would negate the entirety of God Himself.
